Singapore Co-hosts The Regional 3R Forum In Asia To Promote 3R Technologies

A high-level meeting of international experts opens Wednesday in Singapore to promote the use of technology to reduce, reuse and recycle (3R).

Called the Regional 3R Forum, the meeting brings together policy makers from 23 Asia-Pacific countries, the United Nations and international experts in waste and resource management.

In its third year, the forum aims to identify policies, frameworks and opportunities for partnerships to promote technology transfer and adoption in the region.

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources was at the opening session on Wednesday morning at the Sheraton Towers.

At the ceremony he commended signatories of the Singapore Packaging Agreement to reduce packaging waste.

One hundred and twenty-seven signatories have joined the agreement over the past four years.

Together, they have reduced a total of 7,100 tons of packaging waste and have saved nearly S$15 million over the four years
